fuckyeahgpoyw will be taking a one week hiatus. i’m going to visit my sister to help her have a baby. well, hopefully not actually help with the having of the baby… i was thinking more along the lines of taking care of meals and laundry. see you all in a week, beautiful people!

Roughly two years ago on Wednesday (April 9th 2008) I posted a picture of myself for no other reason than it being Wednesday. To this day, countless anony-bloggers, ghost writers and faceless literaries have been saved from the bowels of bad internetting. Putting a face to a written voice has never felt so good and that is why GPOYW works – its a community and an opportunity to see your “friends” once a week.
Mark your calendars, set your alarm clocks, figure out where the timer is on your disposable camera because Wednesday is nearly here. GPOYW on!

What would you guys think if I started to allow people to submit their GPOYW to fuckyeahgpoyw?
I am of two minds on this. One the one hand, it would make finding pics easier for me, because they would all be submitted right here and I wouldn’t have to trawl all the pics tagged with “GPOYW” on tumblr every week (although it is fun and I enjoy it. But sometimes I just don’t have the time.)
On the other hand, I fear people would be submitting “polished” GPOYWs instead of natural ones. I like to see people as they are, not as they want to be seen. You know what I mean? I’m afraid that if I opened up to submissions, we’d start to see a different kind of pic here.
Let me know what you think. Really! And if you have any other suggestions or comments, please let me know.

gpoyw stands for Gratuitous Picture Of Yourself Wednesday. It’s basically just a reason to upload a picture of yourself. But I think it’s a good idea because it lets you put a face to a tumblr. It’s the same idea as Smile Friday and SNPD (Semi-Nude Picture Day).
